I convinced my marketing department (the people behind lib database trading cards) to buy a button-making machine. Because buttons. We bought 1,000 button pieces to start with, and we’re already out. We haven’t even tried out all the ideas we have for the beginning of the semester. I can’t wait to start handing them out!
So far we have (from top): I <3 UMD Libraries and Testudo (our mascot) through his various historical incarnations for First-Look Fair (our fall clubs and organizations fair); more Testudo, of course; a bunch of buttons using images from Special Collections as well as I <3 Hornbake Library and I <3 Special Collections; images from the upcoming Special Collections exhibit on the history of our college radio station. More photos coming soon.
I really really want to have a contest where students mash up/alter images from our Digital Collections to make cool buttons. Maybe leading up to finals week?
Library people - want more awesome button ideas so you can convince your boss to buy a button machine? Here are a few I used as examples.
